ACTRESS GLORIA LORING

Gloria Loring brought her singing voice and the #1 pop hit Friends and Lovers to daytime television and began an acting career that has since included movies of the week, theatre, guest starring roles on primetime, talk show hosting and as a commercial spokeswoman.

Having established herself with hundreds of television performances including The Tonight Show, The Emmy Awards and singing two nominated songs on the Academy Awards, Gloria’s presence and talent provided a casting coup for NBC’s Days of Our Lives. Creating the role of wealthy heiress Liz Chandler, Gloria secured a place in the hearts of the daytime audience. Her performances generated a non-stop flow of fan mail and earned her a consistent spot in the Top Ten Most Popular Actress lists. Her popularity as an actress increased so rapidly she was asked to host live events, talk shows, television specials and commercials.

Afforded an almost weekly opportunity to sing on the show, Gloria’s personality and vocal skills quickly became a ratings bonus, as fans not only began to strongly identify with her character, but also with the songs she performed as part of her storyline. Friends and Lovers not only became a number one hit, but was one of the few songs ever launched on a television network to go to # 1 on the charts.

This was the third time Gloria’s musical skills scored for television. She co-wrote TV theme songs Diff’rent Strokes and Facts Of Life, which she also sings. Those two songs are enjoying a resurgence in popularity as cult classics, having just been released on the CD, All-Time Top 100 TV Themes, with enormous downloads to iPods and cell phones. Facts Of Life has also come out on DVD.

After her son, Brennan, was diagnosed with diabetes, Gloria became a fierce advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and raised over a million dollars by creating and publishing two volumes of the Days of Our Lives Celebrity Cookbook. She has since written three additional books including her just released Living With Type 2 Diabetes: Moving Past The Fear. A recent appearance by Gloria on The View drew an audience of her loyal fans and delivered the show its biggest ratings in weeks.

Her acting career includes the theatre. She’s starred in Blame It On The Movies, winning rave reviews; the comedy, Queen of the Soaps, which won a Los Angeles DramaLogue Award; and the San Francisco production of Stardust, directed by Henry Le Tang. She starred in Tony Award winner George Firth’s one woman show, Music Minus One, and in 1999 and 2000 she toured North America as Reno Sweeney in Cole Porter’s Anything Goes.

Gloria speaks to colleges and universities on the subject of acting, while at the same time marshalling special projects into T. V. production development. She is currently readying a one woman concert, Gloria Loring Throws It Down and a new dance version of Facts Of Life. She just released a new CD A Playlist, a compilation of her favorite recordings of the past fifteen years. In addition, Gloria continues to appear on television as a singer and a host. Recently she hosted a PBS special live from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles.

Gloria is truly a Hollywood hyphenate, a singer/actress/songwriter/author/speaker/ advocate/ spokeswoman who brings all those sensibilities to every project she champions.
